Acer's New Curved 34-Inch Predator X34 Gaming Monitor Is Stunning

Acer's Predator line of gaming monitors is receiving a unique new monitor in the form of the Predator X34, the first 34" curved monitor to feature Nvidia G-Sync. This monitor also comes with some pretty impressive specs that allow for fantastic graphics. Obviously the most notable thing is the Nvidia G-Sync, which is a display technology that eliminates tearing and screen stuttering during gameplay.

In addition to that, G Sync also improves input lag, meaning you can no longer complain about the lag killing you in Call of Duty. In addition to that, the monitor also has a 60Hz refresh rate that can be overclocked to 100Hz, which allows it to produce more frames per second and minimize motion blur.

The Predator X34 from Acer also comes with a QHD 3,440 x 1,440 pixel resolution IPS screen that has a 21:9 aspect ratio, which puts it in a practically new category for ultrawide monitors. According to Acer, this monitor also has 100% sRGB coverage, allowing for an accurate range of colors, and a 178-degree viewing angle.

If you want to get the absolute most comfort from your Predator X34's design then you will love the ergonomic options that are included. The monitor has the ability to tilt back 5 degrees and forward 35 degrees while the height can be adjusted up to 5 inches. If you want to wall mount this monster then you will like to know that the Predator X34 is VESA-compliant and comes with Acer's EyeProtect and ComfyView technology, which filter harmful blue light and reduce background reflections in order to lessen eye fatigue.

And while the curved design might appear to be just a fancy gimmick it's not, especially when it comes to gaming. For gamers, a curved screen provides an immersive experience that usually takes multiple monitors to recreate. The curve positions the edges of the screen in your peripheral vision, which simulates what it's like to see your real-life surroundings out of the corners of your eyes.

Even though this monitor is new, Acer is no stranger to curved monitors. Earlier this year the company announced the Predator Z35, a 35-inch curved monitor with Nvidia G-Sync along with a whole host of top-of-the-line gaming monitors. The Predator X34 is currently available in the United States via Acer's online store for $1,300. No pricing or availability have been announced for Europe or Australia, but expect the prices to be around £850 and AU$1,810, respectively.

Acer B286HK Leading The Way On 4K Affordability

Everyone knows that when new, hot, technology comes out that it is always super expensive. You have to pay to be on the cutting edge of things. But, these are good times for people who need to upgrade their monitor. The Acer B286HK 28-inch 4K Ultra HD monitor is not only an absolute beast, but it also may be a sign of what's to come.

Acer's expensive, and highly sought after, B286HK 28-inch 4K Ultra HD monitor is actually everything it's cracked up to be. It is a 3840 x 2160 monitor capable of 4K video at 60 FPS over DisplayPort 1.2. It uses a TN panel which come people have complained about, but let's get real for a minute: who cares? This thing rules. It has a 2ms response time, 300 cd/m2 brightness, built in speakers and a built in stand that lets you tilt, swivel, adjust height, whatever.

When it first came out, this monitor started selling for $699, and although many people might have trouble justifying that much money on a monitor, I know many who thought that was a great deal! But it's getting even better, recently, the B286HK was spotted online selling for exactly half of it's original price. Which, if you ask me, is an absolutely wonderful deal.

I'm not writing this to get you to buy the B286HK if you don't need a new monitor, chances are you're probably reading this on a perfectly good monitor right now. But the point I'm trying to make here is that 4K monitors are becoming  much more affordable! And the second point is that these price drops might be a sign of even newer technology coming at us pretty soon. Can you say 8K? Either way, I'm excited to see this next generation of 4K monitors move into more mainstream price points.

New 3D Monitor and Projector from Acer

Acer HR274HNew developments from the folks over at Acer as the company recently announced two new products capable of taking your boring old 2D content and converting it into exciting 3D! That is, of course, if you are into the whole 3D gimmick of late which many people seem to be. The two new products come to us as the HR274H 3D computer display and the H9500BD projector.

The HR274H 3D display has a neat Acer chip-based 3D conversion solution that allows you to transform any 2D media into 3D with absolutely no need of software. In addition to that, the display uses passive polarized glasses that are a lot cheaper than your more traditional active shutter 3D glasses.

The display itself measures 27" and also comes with a full 1,920 x 1,080 HD resolution, allowing you to have the brightest, most crisp 3D images for both viewing and gaming. The 3D chip technology also works with any video card you have in your computer, no matter the make, model or brand and ships with a single pair of the polarized 3D glasses. You will also find HDMI connectivity, further broadening the use of your display.

The H9500BD projector supports 3D technology from Nvidia and also converts 2D images to 3D automatically. The projector comes with full 1,920 x 1,080 HD resolution and projects images up to 300" large (diagonally, of course). The projector also uses DLP technology and has a 120Hz refresh rate. A 50,000:1 contrast ratio is in the specs, as is support for active shutter 3D glasses, 2,000 ANSI lumens of brightness and support for 16:9 and 4:3.

You can pick up both devices from Acer directly on the company's website with the HR274H display selling for $599 and the H9500BD projector selling for $1,999.

Asus Announces 27" VG278H 3D Monitor

Asus VG278HIf the announcement of the 27" 3D monitors from Samsung, known as the SA750 and SA950, in addition to the announcement of the 27" 3D monitor announced from Acer, known as the HN274H, wasn't enough excitement for all you monitor junkies out there, then this recent announcement from Asus may just do the trick for you.

Asus has just announced at CeBit a 27" 3D monitor as well, known as the VG278H. Now before you go getting all doe-eyed on me, this isn't the first time Asus has made a big announcement like this at the annual convention. At last year's event there was the infamous ordeal involving the Asus PG276, a device that promised to be the world's first 27" 120Hz 3D monitor. The problem with that was that this device never materialized.

The VG278H, on the other hand, is real and tangible. This device sports a similar design to the VG236H but adds an integrated IR transmitter on the top. The IR transmitter is an integrated 3D receiver that offers support for Nvidia 3D Vision natively. The VG278H is said to ship with a pair of Nvidia 3D glasses as well.

3D integration via IR transmitters seems to be the running standard with all of these recently announced 3D monitors. However, they do seem to also represent an unnecessary expense for anybody who is looking to harness the power of 120Hz responsiveness as opposed to just viewing stereoscopic 3D content.

Aside from what I have already mentioned, not a lot has been revealed about the VG278H. However, close inspection by multiple guests at CeBit has revealed support for HDMI 1.4, DVI-D (dual link), a 1920 x 1080 full HD resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 2ms gray to gray response time, 400 cd/m2 rated brightness and WLED backlighting.

Asus has revealed that the VG278H 27" 3D monitor will be released in October of this year with a recommended price of around €599, or around $865. However, price could change upon release as this price could be given to retailers as a mere guideline. The Asus VG278H will also ship with a pair of Nvidia 3D glasses.

Acer Unveils Two New 3D LCD Monitors

Acer HN274H 3D Monitor3D HDTVs are becoming increasingly popular, as are 3D computer monitors. However, even though 3D is making waves in PC gaming, it has yet to take off like televisions have. Well, Acer is attempting to make the transition from 2D to 3D PC gaming even easier by introducing two new LCDs that offer full 3D capabilities.

Acer's newest device is the HN274H which acts as both a 3D LCD monitor as well as a fully-functioning 3D HDTV. This handy device supports Nvidia 3D Vision for 3D PC gaming and also supports HDMI 3D. What this means is that you have the ability to hook up a 3D-compatible Blu-ray player or a TV set-top box in order to watch movies or television in complete 3D as well. The HN274H is a 27-inch LED-backlit display that comes with three HDMI ports overall as well as a pair of Nvidia active-shutter 3D glasses.

The other new device that Acer is offering to help you make the jump into 3D entertainment is the step-down version, 23.6-inch HS244HQ. This smaller device lacks Nvidia 3D vision support and LED backlighting. However, it still comes with HDMI 3D compatibility and also includes a pair of Acer 3D glasses. In addition to that, the HS244HQ, like the HN274H, offers 1,920 x 1,080 full HD resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and a 2ms response time.

Both the HN274H and the HS244HQ are available now with the HN274H going fora retail price of a $689 and the HS2344HQ going for a $449. If you are looking for a moderately sized 3D HDTV and a large 3D gaming monitor, the HN274H will make a perfect all-in-one device with the HS2344HQ being perfect for a more mild enthusiast.

2 New 3D Monitors from Acer Unveiled

Acer 3D moniotrsI'm not quite sure how popular 3D gaming is amongst the PC crowd. 3D is all the rage in cinema nowadays and tons of people are buying up 3D televisions, but you don't hear a whole lot of talk about 3D computer monitors and gaming.

Now, I'm not much for 3D movies. While I found them entertaining in the beginning, due to the fact that every single director and his mother is making a movie in 3D nowadays, the effect is starting to get old. I am also not too fond of 3D televisions either. I find having to wear 3D glasses whenever I want to watch tv to be tiresome and irritating and the glasses are just another thing for me to break or lose.

3D gaming is a field I never really put much thought into. I was able to give a 3D game a whirl once at a computer store. It was a racing game with lots of things on the road, like barrels, cones, signs, etc..., and when your car drove through them, they would fly at your face. I thought this was a rather neat idea but after playing for about five minutes, I was over the whole thing.

But just because I do not fancy 3D gaming on my PC doesn't mean others agree with me, and it certainly doesn't mean computer companies are going to stop making 3D monitors.

Acer has just announced a new pair of 3D monitors and these actually sound pretty nice. The new screens come to you as the Acer HN274H and the Acer HS244HQ and both of these screens use active 3D shutter glasses. The HN274H is a 27-inch screen with the HS244HQ coming in at 23.6 inches.

The 21-inch HN274H is the first monitor to support HDMI 3D as well as NVIDIA 3D solutions. This allows the monitor to deliver 3D content if you connect it to a 3D component like a PS3 or Blu-ray player, but it can also deliver 3D gaming using the 3D vision system that has already been out on the market for some time now. The HN274H has a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio as well as an integrated IR emitter so it can do 3D without the use of an external emitter.

The 23.6-inch HS244HQ has three HDMI ports, a 12,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a 2ms response time. The HS244HQ also uses an integrated IR emitter and the screen uses Acer 3D glasses as opposed to NVIDIA 3D vision tech like the HN274H.

Both of these monitors sound pretty cool if you ask me. They aren't enough to pull me into 3D gaming but they do sound like good devices for anybody who doubles their monitor as a tv or who is really into 3D movies and gaming. The 27-inch HN274H will be available for $689 with the 23.6-inch HS244HQ available for $449.

Acer's GD235HZ 23.6-inch 3D Display

Acer GD235HZIt seems that Acer is now throwing their card into the ring of 3D computer monitors as they have just released their GD235HZ 120Hz LCD which, I might add, is specially designed to work with NVIDIA's 3D Vision active-shutter glasses system. According to Irene Chan, Senior Product Marketing Manager for Peripherals at Acer America, "As 3D content becomes more widely available in popular games and videos, users desire computing products that can take advantage of these new capabilities. We are excited to offer Acer's first monitor to support 3D technology, enabling consumers to fully immerse themselves in leading-edge 3D games and movies at an affordable price. We see a strong market for 3D technology products that offer the quality and value that Acer is known for providing, as we've demonstrated with our Acer notebook with 3D technology and now with this new Acer GD235HZ display."

Spec wise the Acer GD235HZ has a 23.6-inch widescreen display, 0.2715mm pixel pitch, 2ms response time (G to G), 3000cd/m2 brightness, 16.7 million colors, 1 HDMI (w/HDMI) input, 1 DVI input, 1 VGA input, an internal power supply, 1920x1080 maximum resolution, 120Hz (maximum) refresh rate, 80,000:1 max (ACM)/1000:1 (native) contrast ratio, 170 degrees(H)/160 degrees(V) viewing angels, 6Bit + HiFRC and a Vesa 100mm wall mount. Acer's Adaptive Contrast Management (ACM) has advanced technology that allows users to adjust images frame by frame. This allows you to optimize contrast through the enhancement of detail and gradation. Acer's ACM also enables your monitor use less power which saves energy and provides an excellent viewing experience.

The 16:9 aspect ratio and 1920x1080 resolution gives you excellent high-definition picture quality and users can also enjoy Blu-ray movies on the monitor as well. As with all of Acer's devices you get the whole array of Acer's unique software solutions. The eColor Management interface allows you to fully customize the performance of the display like the brightness, saturation and contrast. The Empowering Key on the monitor lets you switch between viewing scenarios or even create their own custom scenarios. Acer also added their eDisplay Management function which is a powerful color enhancement and display rotation tool.

The Acer GD235HZ has the ability to be combined with NVIDIA's 3D Vision technology. If you are unfamiliar with NVIDIA's 3D Vision then let me refresh your memory. 3D Vision is a combination of a pair of high-tech wireless active shutter glasses, a wireless USB transmitter and an advanced software that allows you to experience a vast array of PC games in high quality 3D. When you combine the Acer GD235HZ with NVIDIA's 3D Vision you can see exceptional 3D quality in with things like 3D pictures, videos, games and upcoming 3D Blu-ray movies. The 3D glasses themselves are lightweight and functional and can even be worn over prescription glasses. The glasses are also said to provide up to 40 hours of life on a single charge.

3D technology is a rapidly growing industry and it is becoming more and more popular and branching off into every form of entertainment. Companies are finding new ways everyday to give us more 3D options and it doesn't look like they will be stopping anytime soon.

Acer's G24 Gaming Monitor

Acer G24 Gaming MonitorIf you are in the market for a gaming monitor, then look no further than the Acer G24. The G24 is a decent 24-inch monitor that is perfect for gaming but not really much else. It has a bright, glossy, reflective screen with a smooth bright orange bezel. It has a 25 degree backward tilt which is basically the monitor's only ergonomic perk. The monitor also doesn't include screen height adjustment, pivoting or panel swiveling. It comes with three connection options which are DVI, HDMI and VGA which all support a 16:10 aspect ratio and 1,920x1,200-pixel native resolution. All of the connections are located on the back right side of the monitor close to the neck and are easy to access although some may complain that the HDMI slot is too close to the neck.

The display comes with a 14.2 inch wide base with two 7 inch long "toes" that extend from the neck at 45 degree angles. Due to the wide base and 16 pound weight, the monitor is fairly grounded producing minimal wobble when struck. However, if you do not like the foot stand or you prefer the wall mounted approach, then you can do so by utilizing the removable foot stand and the four screw holes to be used in conjunction with a VESA wall mount. The power button is represented by a small blue LED light in the bottom right-hand corner with the button directly underneath it. There are five buttons on the left side of the monitor which represent the monitor's left arrow button, right arrow button, menu button, auto button and an "e" button. The "e" button displays the available presets when pressed which include User, Standard, Movie, Text and Graphics. The main difference between these presets is their differences in brightness and color temperatures. The rest of the OSD includes color temperature controls, brightness and contrast.

Reports have come in, however, that trying to navigate the OSD is complicated and frustrating. The different categories on the OSD are not represented by words but rather symbols. Each symbol is aligned horizontally along two rows and can be navigated to by using the arrow keys on the front of the monitor. A symbol of a sun represents the controls for brightness and contrast which you can also get to by using the arrow keys. You select each option by pressing the menu button once you have highlighted the desired symbol which brings up another menu. From this point you chose one of two different options aligned vertically. Select the bottom option via the arrow and menu key, then use the arrow key and menu button again to select the brightness option and then use the arrow key again to select adjust your brightness. Most people find this method old fashioned and ultimately frustrating.

But where this monitor really excels at is games. The display's super-high-gloss screen and high brightness make games look really impressive. The high gloss really makes the colors pop and results in vibrant images. Games also feel a bit faster an more responsive then they do on some other monitors. For the optimal viewing angle you are going to want to be directly in front of the monitor about a quarter of the screen's distance down from the top. The Acer uses a TN+Film panel, which adds extra gloss to the screen. However, this extra gloss doesn't make well for using the monitor for non-entertainment purposes. Heavy backlight bleeding and reflections in the super glossy paneling make it hard to watch movies unless directly in front of the monitor. Like mentioned before, this monitor is great for gaming but isn't recommended for much else than that. You can get this monitor for a price somewhere between $359 to $399.
