Lenovo May Have Gone Under The Radar At This Years CES With These Two Monitors

CES may have been a few months back, but that doesn't mean that there weren't some surprises that you may have missed. Conventions like that one are pretty easy to get excited about. Every tech company you buy your gear from was at this event. Everything from tablets, to game systems, to monitors were showcased at this year's event. Branding is all about marketing. Basically, who ever has the biggest and best marketing campaign will more than likely have the better turn out for product sales. This is why, seemingly, everyone and their mother owns an Apple device. Brands like Lenovo may have been swept under the rug at this years event, but they had some pretty decent products, especially in terms of monitors!

Lenovo revealed two different versions of their ThinkVision 4K displays. Thats right! Even Lenovo is getting involved with the 4K craze. One of the ThinkVision displays is a Smart display while the other is just a monitor.

The Lenovo ThinkVision 4K 28 Smart Display is essentially an Android device and remarkably beautiful display all at the same time. The pixel resolution sits at a gorgeous 3,840 x 2,160 output. The display also happens to be touchscreen which is always a nice "touch" as well. This 28 inch monitor packs quite the load of goodies. It comes with a plethora of different ports at the base of its stand, including 3 HDMI ports, an Ethernet port, and a display port. This smart "monitor" also comes with 2 noise cancelling microphones, a 2 megapixel front facing camera, as well as 2 5-watt speakers in the monitor as well. Since this new monitor can basically run on its own as a tablet, it does come running with Android 4.4 OS. Price for this particular model will start at around $1,199. Definitely not bad for a 4K display, which essentially doubles as a tablet.

The Lenovo ThinkVision Pro 2840 4K Display is offering the same output resolution as its smart cousin. The monitor itself also features a 5ms display response time. Naturally since this model isn't going to be doubling as a tablet, the amount of ports is nearly doubled. 5 USB ports total, along with an HDMI, MiniDisplay port, and more come ready on this model display. The monitor only model of the ThinkVision 28 also comes complete with 2 speakers, as well as a microphone jack. This monitor can also be adjusted on its swivel for better viewing for the consumer. The display can be adjusted to view in either portrait or landscape mode, and can also be moved 5 degrees towards you or 25 degrees away from you. Naturally, since this model isn't running extra features like the smart version, the price tag has been cut quite a bit. Since most 4K displays are pretty expensive, getting a 4K display for your computer at only $799 is not a bad price at all.

It's inevitable that 4K will eventually take over. It's another classic case of Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD. Everyone knew that the higher resolution was going to win. That being said, this just goes to show that there are some companies doing their best to keep up with all of the others. You should expect to see these monitors become available some time in July of this year. Here's to hoping that Lenovo starts getting the credit they deserve.

If you don't have a tablet but you're interested in seeing what it could be like using it as a second monitor, there is nothing wrong with renting. How To Choose The Monitor Of Your Dreams

The choice of which monitor you use with your computer can determine your ability to work comfortably, enjoy high quality videos and efficiently manage multiple tasks at the same time. But oddly enough, most people will choose their computer's monitor based on what comes in a package deal, or choose the largest screen that they can get within their budget. While size does in fact matter, there are plenty of other factors to consider before purchasing the screen you'll be staring at for hours at a time.

Before you let the monster 32 inch screens seduce you, keep in mind that the screen will only be a few feet away from your face at the most. Make sure you have a big enough desk to handle that much viewing area without overwhelming your whole space.

Dell's New Project Ophelia HDMI Stick Transforms Monitors into Virtual PCs

Recently, Dell unveiled a prototype of a pocket-sized HDMI stick that is capable of turning any compatible computer monitor into a virtual PC that is capable of running Android apps or remotely accessing Windows apps on a cloud service or remote PC.

The prototype, known as Project Ophelia, is the brain child of Dell Wyse, the business unit formed from Dell's acquisition of Wyse Technology. Tarken Maner, former CEO of Wyse and new Vice President and General Manager of Cloud Client Computing at Dell, expects the device to cost under $100 when it is launched, though a release date has yet to be established.

The HDMI interface of the device will allow it to be used with big-screen displays like HDTVs, making Project Ophelia a relatively inexpensive way to make a computer anywhere the stick can connect to a network through either Bluetooth or WiFi. Maner believes that telecommunications companies that wish to sell cloud devices may subsidize the device in the same way they discount cell phones to customers who commit to service contracts.

On the other hand, Project Ophelia does face some pretty big hurdles. For example, most TVs in hotel rooms come with HDMI access, though a keyboard and mouse may not be readily available. Plus, if you have to bring both of those with you, you not only add bulk and cost, but you might as well bring a laptop.

While connected to an MHL-compatible display, the stick doesn't require any additional power. However, MHL is also a relatively new technology and HDTVs that have it are just now starting to pop up on the market. Without MHL, Project Ophelia must be charged through a USB connection. MHL, in case you didn't know, stands for Mobile High-Definition Link and is a technology that delivers power from the display to the device while displaying its contents.

Also, inexpensive tablets can do much of what this new dongle from Dell can already do and they don't involve the hassle of finding and setting up monitors, keyboards and mice since they already have a display and navigation functions. While it is most definitely true that a good tablet of good size will cost you well over $100, the tradeoffs may be worth it.

A Great Computer Monitor Made by Apple?

In the world of computer monitors, there are many different manufacturers and hardware makers for consumers to choose from. The interesting thing is that a name most would not think of makes one of the world's best monitors...Apple.

While this may seem like the wrong place to be discussing and talking about an Apple product, the fact is that the 27-inch Thunderbolt Display is a computer monitor and is fantastic. With a resolution of 2560 x 1440 on a beautiful 27-inch LED display, the thunderbolt display is a "top-of-the-line" monitor.

The 27-inch Thunderbolt display is not only a great product because of its large, bright display but also because it has a built in webcam, speakers, and various I/O inputs such as USB and Firewire. The connection used to connect this display to a computer is the "new" connection developed by Intel, Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt is a new connection that is available on all new Apple computers and an increasing amount of PC's.

While this is certainly a great monitor that would make nearly any consumer happy, it does have certain drawbacks. The first of these would be price. The 27-inch Thunderbolt display costs an astounding $999. That price is sure to drive away many consumers as there are many great monitors and even "all-in-one" computers available for less. The other major drawback is that the connection type, Thunderbolt, is still a relatively rare connection, save for Apple products.

In the end, the 27-inch Thunderbolt display from Apple is a fantastic display that will really only be used by two different groups. The two consumer classes that will purchase this monitor are those that are diehard Apple fans that want a big display or those with money to burn that want an amazing monitor. It is hard to say that this is not a good monitor, since the specs are as good as you can get, but until the staggering price drops, it is hard to recommend it.
